Escondido, San Diego County
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park opened in 1972 in the San Pasqual Valley, on the eastern side of Escondido. It covers about 1,800 acres, far more room than the zoo in Balboa Park, and herds of giraffes, rhinos and antelope roam together in open enclosures. The park is also known for its work breeding California condors.
